Results of the 2024 Croner Digital Content and Technology Survey

The trend continues of strong compensation growth for digital media and e-commerce positions. The recently published 2024 Croner Digital Content and Technology Survey provides in-depth market data on compensation for jobs specific to internet and mobile content and transactions.

Noteworthy findings from the 2024 survey include:

  • All organization levels experienced strong compensation growth in all compensation elements from 2023 to 2024. Executive positions experienced the greatest growth. Material growth in bonus awards drove growth in executive compensation.
  • More companies paid actual bonuses that were below target than those that paid at or above target. Although almost half of the companies paid bonus awards that were less than target, the results for some positions saw an increase in total cash compensation. In many cases, higher base salaries this year over last year contributed to the increase in actual total cash compensation.
  • Among senior-level individual contributors in Software Engineering job families, base salaries for Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning positions remain the highest – out of specialties including Software Architecture, Mobile App Development, DevOps Engineering, Release Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Web Development and Quality Assurance Engineering.
  • Among senior individual contributors in Marketing job families, base salaries for Brand Marketing positions remain the highest – out of specialties including Product Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, Influencer Marketing, Integrated Marketing, Email/Live Chat Marketing, Audience Development / Growth Marketing, Performance Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Direct Marketing, Generalist Marketing and Events Marketing.
  • “Hot Jobs” – roles for which compensation grew materially year over year – include Content Operations, Editorial and Social Media Management / Marketing.
  • Geographic differentials continue to exist for Software Engineer individual contributor positions. The median across all levels increased by 1.2% from 2023, resulting in the West averaging 17% higher across the median base salary across all regions reported while the East averages 0%.
  • Between permanent remote and in-office / hybrid, the greatest representation by percentage of permanent remote employees is currently in the Southwest region. The West has the lowest prevalence of permanent remote employees.

The Croner Digital Content and Technology Survey delivers data and insights critical to benchmarking pay competitively for digital jobs. The survey results provide meaningful answers to your questions about how to compete for digital talent – including permanent remote versus in-office / hybrid and geographic differential results for U.S. region and metropolitan areas.
