The recently published results of the 2024 Croner Animation and Visual Effects Survey show noteworthy trends in compensation from the past year among leading companies in the industry.

Croner’s annual report provides in-depth market data for jobs specific to the production of animation and visual effects.

Highlights from the recent results include:

  • Compensation for positions in the animation and visual effects industry grew year over year for production leadership / operations management and individual contributor levels in the U.S. Bonuses were, on average, below 2023 levels, resulting in limited growth in actual total cash compensation. Long-term incentives, such as equity and long-term cash, drove growth for production leadership / operations management levels. Increases in base salary drove growth for individual contributors.
  • Base salary is the dominant compensation element for all positions among animation and visual effects organizations.
  • Pipeline positions with the most growth in base salary year over year include: Shading / Texture Painting Artist, Co-Producer and Associate Producer.
  • The mean value for overtime hours is greatest at the senior / lead individual contributor level.
  • The difference in compensation between the senior individual contributor and the individual contributor levels is greatest in the U.S. for character animation. In Canada, the greatest difference between senior and non-senior levels is for modeling.
  • The difference in compensation between Canada and U.S. positions is greater among positions outside the production pipeline.

The annual Croner Animation and Visual Effects Survey is the trusted industry resource specific to jobs that produce animation and visual effects for film, television and software games in the U.S. and Canada, providing in-depth compensation data on benchmark positions.
